Stainless 2009

5th International Stainless Steel Congress (Brno, The Czech Republic, April 7-9, 2009)

Taking part in this event Dneprospetsstal has pursued two aims that are branding and creation of new relations. Mass media and analytical groups i.e. Focus Rostfrei, Stainless Steel Focus and SMR have mentioned the company’s stability comparing to other companies of the CIS.

The most clients (there has been about 50 meetings during 2 days) have shown a keen interest in small volumes of rolled stock. Not only stainless but also tool steel has attracted interest.

Producers-participants of the exhibition (e.g. Cogne Acciai, Thyssen Krupp VDM, Allegheny Technologies, S+B) have noted that in the existing situation they place their bets on markets of Eastern Europe in particular Czechia, Poland, Ukraine and Russia.

Along with the exhibition the 5th International Conference Stainless 2009 has been held. There has been pointed out that in Europe the share of small-scale consumers has increased comparing to the previous period due to activity decline in automobile and machine-building industries.

Furthermore, Peter Kaumans (International Stainless Steel Forum) medium-term forecast has been presented where it has been singled out that total reduction of stainless steel rolled stock consumption trade-wise falls within the end of the 2nd quarter. In the 2nd – 3rd quarter the stagnation will occur with subsequent insignificant growth of consumption by the beginning of the 4th quarter. In Europe the recovery of consumption level will fall behind the globe progress rate. According to ISSF, the only growth points will be the Middle East and Eastern Europe (including the CIS).
